This report highlights the ongoing humanitarian, economic, and environmental challenges currently facing the residents of Beit Ummar, north of Hebron in the southern West Bank. Over the past month, the town has experienced intensified restrictions and repeated closures imposed by the Israeli occupation authorities, severely affecting daily life, freedom of movement, local agriculture, and the economic stability of the community.
The situation has escalated through the use of military bulldozers to close roads, destroy infrastructure, and isolate neighborhoods for days at a time. These actions are contributing to growing social and economic hardship for thousands of Palestinian residents.
For more than a month, Israeli forces have repeatedly entered Beit Ummar with heavy bulldozers and military vehicles, blocking the town’s entrances and internal roads using dirt barriers, rocks, and metal obstacles. In several areas, roads have been excavated and sections of asphalt destroyed, making transportation difficult and dangerous. s
These closures often continue for several consecutive days, preventing residents from reaching workplaces, schools, universities, health centers, and nearby cities. Emergency access has also become increasingly difficult. The repeated road destruction has caused significant economic losses for local businesses, farmers, workers, and transport services.
Confiscation of Mountain Lands
A particularly alarming development is the confiscation of two mountain areas located between Beit Ummar and Al-Arroub Refugee Camp. According to local information and field observations, Israeli authorities are planning to establish a new bypass road and construct a separation wall in the area marked in red on the attached map.
The planned road and wall will prevent Palestinian families from accessing large areas of privately owned agricultural and natural land. These mountains are considered a natural reserve and contain rare native trees, including the “Gheigab” tree, traditionally used by local residents as a natural spice.

Humanitarian Concerns
Residents of Beit Ummar continue to face daily uncertainty due to sudden road closures and military activity. Students, workers, patients, and elderly people are particularly vulnerable under these conditions. The repeated disruptions are placing psychological and financial pressure on the population and weakening the community’s resilience.
The current situation in Beit Ummar reflects a broader pattern of movement restrictions and land confiscation. The Center for Freedom and Justice (CFJ) calls upon international organizations to monitor these developments and advocate for the protection of civilians and access to land resources.

Beit Ummar

Local activists and eyewitnesses described the operations as part of an ongoing pattern of intimidation targeting residents in the southern West Bank.
